Our Beginnings

Brett, Seth and Alisa
The beginnings of Couve Couture… We are often asked how we started the show so here is our story.
In 2011 the downtown arts community decided to plan an outdoor fashion show. Both Brett M Allred and I, Alisa Powell Tetreault were asked to be a part. At the first planning meeting Brett and I teamed up to ensure a beautiful look from head to toe.
Our portion of the show was pretty darn good as I dressed models in 50’s vintage from my shop Most Everything Vintage and Brett’s team from his salon Beigeblond Salon gave them perfect ‘vintage’ hair and makeup. We made a really good team!
We learned a lot from this show. The what to do and not to do. Many people came up to us after telling us we should put on our own show. We talked about it but it didn’t go much farther than that.
Well, the talking about it came to a halt when Brett visited my shop with his friend SethAaron Henderson who at that time was going through the first season of Project Runway (currently 2-time winner). Seth needed to put a date on his busy calendar. It was official and we couldn’t go back.
I will never forget my first planning meeting with Brett. The main thought was, “what have I gotten myself into?!” I have planned many events over the years but never a fashion show. Fortunately Brett had been involved with many fashion shows.
We started teaming up with people in our downtown community and before we knew it we had a show planned, October 20, 2012 at The Atrium Lounge (now 6 West).
We had four designers and a sold out show with about 250 attendees. The show wasn’t perfect but we did it!
The picture posted is Brett, Seth and I after the show. Don’t mind my feathers as I was coordinating with my models who were wearing animal masks. Pretty sure the lip prints on Brett’s cheek is from my lipstick.
Immediately attendees after the show were asking when the next show would be. We had created a baby monster! Our next show was April 2013 with 600 attendees and a sold out show.
Here we are six years later with our sixth show less than a month away. We have had the opportunity of working with some incredible local designers over the years, models, hair and make-up artists, food and drink vendors, building owners, photographers, videographers, media, our amazing sponsors that keep this show funded, our planning volunteers that work so hard and YOU are ticket buyers.

I know this is a long post but we just wanted to say that we couldn’t do any of this without you and we are so grateful for all of your support over the years.

Cheers to this show and the many to follow!
